NYBA COMPETITIVE TEAMS | NYBA BLUES

For over 60 years, the North York Baseball Association has built a strong competitive organization comprised of great players, coaches and management staff.

We are proud of the many successes of our competitive teams which includes numerous TBA championships and several OBA championships. In 2025, the NYBA 13UAAA team were the Canadian National Champions. [See Team Stories].

All competitive teams for the 2026 season have been fully rostered.

NYBA COMPETITIVE LEVELS

ELITE BASEBALL:

North York elite teams play in the Elite Baseball League of Ontario (EBLO - Elite Baseball League of Ontario ) which is made up of top players and teams from across the province beginning at the 15U age level.

It is a highly-competitive level of baseball and is a natural progression for players in the AAA baseball stream. Players at this level are often interested in pursuing baseball opportunities at the university or college level.

REP BASEBALL:

This level of competion is best suited for skilled players looking for top-level baseball instruction and competition. There are three different levels, A, AA and AAA – AAA being for the more experienced and talented players.

Rep teams play and practice weekly in the summer and are involved in a winter training program. There are additional tournaments – both home and away agreed upon by the team. Travel is in Southern Ontario. Championship tournaments and games are held in August.

SELECT BASEBALL:

Select is the perfect option for players wanting a higher level of play over recreational baseball but are not ready for the full commitment required at the rep level.

Games are held weekly but are not scheduled on long weekends. The select season starts around the May long weekend and extends to mid-August. Away games are within the GTA.

Select teams have a winter training program that is determined on a team-by-team basis but generally runs weekly and starts in January.

NYBA fields select teams for 13U and under, when there is interest and volunteer coaches available.

SEASON

A standard season runs from approximately April (end of May for Select) to the end of August with approximately 20 regular-season league games, plus tournaments and playoffs.

North York Baseball Association (NYBA) follows the official season schedules established by both the Toronto Baseball Association (TBA) and the Elite Baseball League of Ontario (EBLO).

While these governing organizations do not designate formal “black-out” periods, individual NYBA teams may choose to organize a short team-specific black-out period at the discretion of the coaching staff.

Players who anticipate requiring an extended absence during the season — for reasons such as family travel, camp attendance, or other non-baseball commitments — must communicate this in advance of signing with a team to their coaching staff. Approval of such absences will be handled on a player-by-player basis and must be agreed upon prior to the absence.

This policy is intended to promote clear communication, respect for team scheduling, and accountability among all NYBA elite, rep, and select players.

COACHING STAFF

All NYBA coaches are certified through the Ontario Baseball Association. They, along with their assistants and management staff are committed to developing baseball skills and promoting team fair play among players and parents.

Every coaching staff focuses on the physical and emotional well being of every player, and promoting a healthy playing lifestyle. It is the goal of every elite/rep/select team to be competitive in every game played.

Players are continually evaluated in their baseball skills, knowledge and enthusiasm to make every reasonable effort to ensure every player has a meaningful role in accomplishing the goal.

Teams may elect to hire professional coaches to focus on specific aspects of the baseball – such as throwing and catching. This is decided and paid for at the team level.

NYBA is always looking for parent coaches for its competitive programs. If interested please reach out to Rick Kotick rick.kotick@gmail.com

BOND PARK - HOME FIELD

NYBA home games are played at Bond Park [Leslie & York Mills, North York, ON].

North York Baseball is committed to providing quality training facilities for players by professionally maintaining all five diamonds (Diamond 3 is MLB regulations size); two full-size professionally turfed batting cages; multiple pitching machines; professional L/screens and a fully equipped weight training room.

The park has change/washrooms facilities; a large clubhouse, snack bar and FREE parking. The park can be accessed from Don Mills Road or Leslie St.

FEES

All competitive teams share in the overall administrative expenses of the North York Baseball Association, which are paid directly to the association.

Team fees include tournament fees; umpires, additional coaching fees and any additional expenses the team incurs such as private coaching. (Uniforms are not included in the player fees.)

Every player pays a deposit when signed and the balance of the fees are pro-rated in installments during the year. Players fees at the competitive level are non-refundable.

TRYOUTS

Elite teams host tryouts in July, while tryouts for rep/select teams start after the Labour Day weekend.

Tryouts are held first for all AAA teams followed by AA and then A teams. Once all of the rep tryouts are completed, select tryouts are scheduled. The tryout schedule is set at the end of August.

NYBA charges a tryout fee, that is budgeted for competitive families in need of financial assistance.  Players can attend a number of tryouts.

The NYBA executive maintains an open line of communication with both players and parents and makes every effort to accommodate the concerns of players and parent members regarding these issues and matters.

Questions or concerns can be directed to Heather - heather@nyba.ca and will be forwarded to the NYBA rep committee.
