NYBA 12UAAA 2021 OBA Champs!
In a baseball season that was truly unique, the North York Blues 12UAAA overcame a myriad of obstacles to win the OBA provincial championship. After a series of near misses, it is the team’s first provincial championship since 2017.
With the threat of Covid looming all season, and with a new format in place, the team knew the road to province’s top spot was going to be a difficult one. Nearly 30 teams from across Ontario entered into the OBA’s inaugural August Madness tournament.
After an undefeated run through the preliminary round, the Blues advanced to the championship bracket alongside the four other top teams in the province.
The first weekend of the championship round meant a road trip to Windsor to play 4 games in the blistering heat. With contributions from the entire roster both at the plate, on the mound and in the field, North York compiled a 2-1-1 record through the first four games.
North York hosted the second weekend, welcoming Leaside, Peterborough, Oakville and Riverside to Bond Park. After notching wins in its first two games, the Blues trounced Peterborough on Saturday night to clinch the provincial crown.
“As always with this team, everybody did something to help us win,” head coach Mark Bondy said afterwards.
Everybody on this tight knit team is already looking forward to next season and the chance to build on this year’s successes both on and off the field.
Congratulations to the players, coaches & parents!
Way to go Blues!
